Ukrainian language classes

Ukrainian Institute London has been offering Ukrainian language classes for over 30 years. Hundreds of students have studied Ukrainian with us. In the recent survey, over 80% expressed their high satisfaction with the quality of materials used and methods of teaching.
 

Learn Ukrainian online:

We are currently holding online classes. If you are interested in learning Ukrainian via Skype/Zoom, please email Maria Montague at montague@ukrainianinstitute.org.uk. We currently have the following groups running online:

  • Upper beginners: for students who have completed 2 terms of language tuition. This class takes place on Mondays 6.30pm-8.30pm
  • Complete beginners: this class takes place on Thursdays at 6.30-8.30pm
  • Given suffient demand we can form additional groups for online classes.

Our teachers

Our teachers are native speakers with relevant teaching qualifications with many years of experience of teaching Ukrainian as foreign language.

Volodymyr Oleyko was born in Pustomyty near the city of L'viv in Ukraine. He earned his MA in Journalism from the Ukrainian Academy of Publishing and his MSc in Political Economy from the London School of Economics. In Ukraine, Volodymyr worked as an editor and journalist in both print and broadcasting media. Since he moved to London, Volodymyr has been actively involved in activities of the local Ukrainian community. He is a member of the Ukrainian Writers' Union and an author of two published books of poetry.

 

Olha Volosova is a graduate of Karazin Kharkiv National University. She holds a PhD in Ukrainian Literature and MA in Ukrainian. She also studied at the Harvard Summer School. Olha has been teaching Ukrainian since 1999. Olga previously taught at the University of Birmingham. Now, apart from the Ukrainian Institute, she teaches at UCL. Her publications include Collins Ukrainian Mini Gem and Gem Dictionaries (she is the editor of the Ukrainian content) and textbooks on Ukrainian Literature for Years 5 and 6 for St Mary's Ukrainian School in London.

 

Iryna Sandalovych was born in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. She gained her BA in English and MA in Management and Business Administration at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Ivano-Frankivsk. Iryna has extensive experience of teaching Ukrainian to students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities, and also completed a course in teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language. Outside of the Ukrainian Institute, Iryna has taught Ukrainian at St. Mary's Ukrainian School as well as a private tutor in London. She has been a member of Molodyi Teatr London since 2012

 

Teaching materials & methodology

Our courses are based on practical Ukrainian that you can use everyday. Conversation and speaking are the focus with lots of grammar & writing practice. You will also benefit from the chance to attend events organised at the Institute where you can meet and practice with native speakers.

We use the YABLUKO textbook series, written by an expert team of educators according to the latest communicative methodology to learn Ukrainian as a second language. Students of the Ukrainian Institute London are entitled to 15% discount when ordering these books. Please write to montague@ukrainianinstitute.org.uk to request a code, enabing you to benefit from this discount. 


Terms

We run three terms each year and enrollment is possible at the beginning of each term.

The year is divided into the following terms: Autumn Term (September to mid December),  Winter Term (mid January – end of March) and Summer Term (April-July). 

The dates for Summer Term are: the week commencing 27 April 2020 to the week finishing 13 July 2020 (12 weeks).


Cost & discounts

The cost per term is £200.  You will be requested to pay this via bank transfer after enrollment.

A minimum of four students must enrol per group for it to go ahead.

Those paying for all three terms will benefit from 10% discount.
