20 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the UK -- Invitation to a Talk by Ukraine?s 1st Ambassador to the UK, H.E. Serhiy Komisarenko

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, a newly independent Ukrainian State was born. The UK was among the very first countries to pay tribute to this remarkable event, recognising Ukraine’s independence on 31 December 1991.

Diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Great Britain were established on 10 January 1992, with the Ukrainian Embassy in London and the British Embassy in Ukraine opening later that year.

We are delighted to invite you to an event marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the UK and Ukraine onThursday, January 26th at 7.00PM at the Ukrainian Institute in London.

The keynote speaker will be H.E. Mr. Serhiy Komisarenko, Ukraine’s first ambassador to the court of St James’s, the first Ambassador Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom(from 1992 to 1998), and to Ireland (from 1995 to 1998).

We will have a unique opportunity to hear about ‘behind the scenes’ events of setting up the Embassy in London, the reactions from  Foreign and Commonwealth office representatives and how the UK Government in 1992 viewed the future development of Ukraine as a new independent state.
