Ukrainians in London express their gratitude to departing British Ambassador

The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) hosted an audience with HM Ambassador Leigh Turner on April 26th  at their Headquarters in Notting Hill to thank the Ambassador for all his work in Ukraine over the past four years. The Foreign and Commonwealth office has announced that Leigh Turner will now be assigned to another Diplomatic Service appointment . He will be replaced by Mr Simon Smith who will take up his appointment during late summer 2012.

The audience in London was chaired by the President of the AUGB Zenko Lastowiecki, who thanked the ambassador for all his work and support since 2008. Over 40 Ukrainian guests and members of the Ukrainian Diaspora attended the event in London.

‘Ambassador Leigh Turner has been recognised as one of the most highly visible ambassadors in Ukraine mainly due to his blog, which has become extensively followed and read in both Ukraine and here in the UK. We are very grateful to Ambassador Turner for his support of education in Ukraine and particularly his support of the Ukrainian Catholic University. We sincerely wish him all the very best in his new posting, commented Andy Hunder, Director of the Ukrainian Institute in London.

During the audience at the AUGB Ambassador Turner recalled the months he spent in Lviv where he was taking Ukrainian language courses and spoke of Lviv as the ‘Jewel in Europe’.
