Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University nominated Apostolic exarch for Ukrainians in France
The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church has a new bishop. Pope Benedict XVI named the Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University Rev. Dr. Borys Gudziak as Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainians in France and appointed him Titular Bishop of Carcabia. This was announced 21 July by the Vatican Press Service.
Besides France, the Exarchate also includes Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, and Switzerland. The Holy Father accepted the resignation from office of Bishop Mykhail Hrynchyshyn.
Bishop-nominee Borys (Gudziak) will be the 49th member of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
Fr. Borys Gudziak was born in Syracuse, New York (USA) in 1960 and was ordained a priest in 1998. He received his doctorate in Byzantine and Slavic studies from Harvard University and is the author of numerous academic works.
