Let’s celebrate Ukrainian Christmas & the New Year with an evening packed full of festivities!
-- Live carol singing by the ethno band KURBASY, whose unique and cosmic style traces contemporary connections to traditional Carpathian singing. The band will be joining us live from Lviv and we'll have chance to ask them about their work following their performance.
-- Star chef Olia Hercules will showcase her favourite Ukrainian Christmas dish – and believe us, it’s not something you’ve made before!
-- Live auction! We'll be auctioning the beautiful art-books Ñêðèíÿ. Ðå÷³ ñèëè, Øêîëà гçäâà and Íàðå÷åíà by Kovcheh, which give a magical exploration of Ukrainian folk traditions -- and we'll hear from the creator of the books, Yaryna Vynnytska before we open bidding! We'll also be auctioning copies of 'Life Went on Anyway' by Oleg Sentsov, translated by Uilleam Blacker, who will introduce the book before the auction.
-- A toast to all we’ve accomplished (and survived) in 2020, share our exciting plans for 2021 and open the floor to your feedback.
Our ‘Shchedryi Vechir’ is free to register -- but please consider donating to our crowdfunder for the Institute’s projects in 2021! We need your support to reach our goal of £5,000 for a new website, our new translation prize and our 2021 film festival! More info & donate here.
Please note! Unlike our regular online events, this time we'll be using the format of Zoom meeting, where all our guests will be able to turn on their cameras. We also invite you to wear a vyshyvanka (or come as you are if you don't have one!) and to have a glass of bubbly (or any beverage of your choice) at the ready to raise a toast to the new year!
