Vitaly Portnikov, one of Ukraine's most prominent journalists and commentators, will reflect on the results of new presidential elections in the country and the prospects of the Ukrainian political project. Why has Ukraine not yet succeeded in its modernisation project? What are the chances now? How did Maidan become possible and are Ukraine's oligarchs now planning to roll back its achievements? What role does Russia play in shaping the new Ukrainian reality?

The talk will include presentation and sale of Vitaly Portnikov new book, "Maidan's Bells" ("Дзвони Майдану”), and will be followed by a wine reception. 

The event will be moderated by Marina Pesenti, Director of Ukrainian Institute London.

Vitaly Portnikov

Vitaly Portnikov is one of Ukraine's most seasoned and authoritative political commentators, who has worked for a plethora of print and broadcast media. He worked for the Radio Free Europe, Espreso TV, his publications appeared in Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, Belarussian and Baltic newspapers:  KommersantVedomosti, Vremya MN, Vremya Novostey, Moskovskiye Novosti, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, Obshaya gazeta, Ukrainian Den', Korrespondent, Profil, Delovaya Nedelya, Dzerkalo Tyzhnia, Kontrakty, Novynar, Glavred, Latvian Biznes & Baltia, Telegraf, Estonian Estonia, Postimees, Polish PolitykaGazeta Wyborcza, Polska, Belarusian Belgazeta. Vitaly was active at Euromaidan demonstrations in Kyiv in 2014. He is the author of three books, one of which will be presented at the event.
