An evening of Ukrainian classical violin music

An evening of Ukrainian classical violin music

Date and time:

Saturday 9 September, 2023
19:30 - 20:30

Location:

Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral
22 Binney St
London
W1K 5BQ

Markiyan Melnychenko will perform a collection of miniature pieces for violin and piano by Ukrainian composers. Throughout the program, the presence of folk elements can be felt; sometimes nuanced and sometimes in an open embrace. The influence of their national folk songs and dances left a profound mark on the art-music output of Ukrainian composers and, in so doing, ensured that those composers played an important part in preserving and nurturing the national identity of the Ukrainian people. These miniatures are a celebration of Ukrainian input into the treasury of human culture and beauty. Furthermore, in the context of Ukraine's current struggle for national survival, they are also a tribute to the immense courage and sacrifices of those defending Ukraine, as well as a reminder of why they do so.

All donations will go towards UIL’s fund for Ukrainians displaced to the UK.
