Course outline
This one-week Upper Beginners’ Ukrainian Intensive Winter Course aims to give students the opportunity to maximise their language-learning practice, broaden their vocabulary, and gain further understanding of Ukrainian grammar, as well as Ukrainian culture and history. We will focus on the practical use of the language in everyday situations. The course will cover reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, with a particular focus on speaking practice.
You will be taught by a teacher who is highly qualified and experienced in teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language. Small class sizes (up to eight participants) will allow maximum involvement of all learners and tailored guidance from the teacher.
On completion of the course the participants are expected to achieve the equivalent of Level A2.1.
Who is this course for?
The course is open to students who have recently completed the Beginners’ course or similar, or have some knowledge of the Ukrainian language through visits to Ukraine, family background or self-study. It is designed for learners who have already learned the basics of the Ukrainian language and grammar and would like to revise, consolidate and build on their existing language skills in a short period of time.
What does this course cover?
Topics: personal information; family; countries, languages and nationalities; jobs and occupations; work places; appearance and character; clothes; hotels; buildings; home; trips; directions; renting/letting property; time and daily routine.
Grammar: revision of tenses: past, present and future; nominative case; nouns; adjectives; personal pronouns; locative case; accusative case; expressing place with the genitive and instrumental cases; practice of the vocative case formation; using the imperative; aspects of the verbs; ordinal numerals and their case endings; degrees of comparison.
